A major congratulations to you for making it this far. I think we can all agree that 2020 was a challenging year for us all. Our sense of normality was turned upside down and we had no say. Confined to the walls of our house during the Pandemic and numerous lock-downs, for many of us it was scary and caused us to lose momentum and motivation. However you have made it this far and that in itself is an achievement.

So how do we spark motivation for this new year? Here’s five practical tips to get you started.

 

1. Gain clarity on your goals for 2021

Start by sitting alone in a quiet room with some gentle background music. Close your eyes and ask yourself what do I want to achieve most this year? As thoughts begin to flow to your mind write it down in a book. Don’t think about HOW you are going to get it done? or HOW much it will cost?  ect.
Just focus solely on ‘WHAT’ the goal is you would like to achieve.

 

2. List all your great characteristics and strengths

This one may seem strange at first, but honestly have a brag for a moment, we don’t do that enough. Hunny toot your own horn for a minute. This will help reaffirm who you are and what you bring to the table. A lot of the skills and characteristics you list will encourage you when approaching the goal to see that you are more than capable and I bet you have some pretty great transferable skills to help you get started.

 

3. Accountability is KEY!

Find someone who will hold you to account. Ideally someone who isn’t going to let you off the hook so easy if you don’t stick to your word. We all have that friend that gives us a little tough love, we might just need that in order to hold yourself to account and actually do what we say we are going to do.

 

4. Make sure your goals are VISIBLE

There is something about seeing your goals daily, it sends a message to your mind to subconsciously look for answers. Seeing it every day will remind you of what you are working towards.

 

5: Figure out your reason WHY

We all have different motivating factors that push us to act. Some are from within whereas others are external factors. For most mothers it’s usually their children, whereas for others it might be an intrinsic desire to improve yourself. Whatever your reason your WHY needs to be big enough to get you out of bed in the morning and motivate you to work towards goals.

 

A final TIP is to celebrate every win, even the small ones. This will help keep you motivated and you will feel a sense of accomplishment.

 

Be kind and patient to yourself in this season and remember Rome wasn’t built in one day, somethings simply take time.
